History & Colonial Heritage

The area was introduced to the modern world in 1857 by Captain James Forsyth of the British Army. He discovered the spot now known as Priyadarshini Point (formerly Forsyth Point) and fell in love with its beauty.

Pachmarhi served as a sanatorium for British troops and the summer capital for the Central Provinces. Colonial influences remain visible today through the Catholic Church and Christ Church, both architectural marvels of that era.
