Chandigarh was the first planned city of country and it's well - known for its architecture and its urban planning. In per capita income of union territories and Indian states the city comes on the first place. The ministry of Urban development declared Chandigarh to be the cleanest city of India.
History of Chandigarh:
With the Partition of India in 1947, Punjab also got divided into two parts and Lahore the capital of Punjab went to Pakistan. With this here was the need of a new capital as replacement of Lahore. After, several discussions, it was decided to plan a new city. With this Chandigarh project began with personal interest of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Lal Nehru. Chandigarh was designed by French architect Le Corbusier. Initial planning was made by American architect Mathew Nowicki, but he died in 1950 and Le Corbusier was invited for the work. In 1961 the Chadigarh project completed.
The culture of Chandigarh is not of its own, but it includes the qualities of all the neighboring states. It has the influences of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, UP and Bihar. The popular food is all kinds of North Indian food. In dressing trousers and shirts are popular for gents and salwar suits for ladies. Fashion of jeans and t-shirts is followed by most of the teenagers.

Capitol Complex, The Open Hand, Sector 17, Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, International Dolls Museum, and Leisure Valley: Rose Garden of Chandigarh, the largest garden of Asia, is a part of the Leisure valley only. Among gardens Garden of Tranquility, Garden of Annuals, Garden of Rare Plants, Botanical Garden, Garden of Aromatic Plants, Bougainvillea Garden are the other gardens in the city.

By Air if you wish to reach, then Chandigarh has a domestic airport, which is connected almost with every city of India. Similarly its connected almost with every part of the country through rail. Shatabdi, jan shatabdi, Himalayan queen are the best trains connecting Delhi and Chandigarh. From Delhi by road Chandigarh is 250 km. National highway 21 and 22 runs through and makes it easily approachable by road. Buses, taxis all are easily available.
